A crèche that helps children at risk, their parents and society

Everyone should benefit from this. With a gestation of seven years, the association la Safeguarding the North gave birth to a project unique in France for an early detection crèche. This structure, installed in Lille, should make it possible to avoid the catastrophic consequences of
attachment deficit in newborns. Support that should first benefit children and their parents, but which could also save society a lot of money.

The Rigolo comme la vie early detection nursery is located on Boulevard de Strasbourg, in the southern districts of Lille. It has ten “city of Lille” cradles, for children without problem, and 10 others reserved for “at risk” toddlers. This structure is the result of a terrible observation by the child psychiatrist of the Safeguard, Rosa Mascaro, now also recognized by political authorities: the first years of a child’s life are decisive for its development.

Children sometimes referred as soon as they leave the maternity ward

What we call the “lack of attachment” are neglect, intra-family deficiencies, a lack of interactions or even neglect of the baby. If it is not taken care of and resolved quickly, it can lead to developmental disorders: “The consequences are well known, if it lasts four to five years, it can generate irreversible cerebral atrophy of the order of. 30 %. Around 8 or 9 years old, the children are then generally withdrawn from the family, ”assures Jérôme Obry, Managing Director (CEO) of Rigolo comme la vie.

Hence the interest of early treatment. Children can be referred as soon as they leave the maternity ward to this crèche if a risk has been observed. “Often, families come from a disadvantaged background and are already followed by social workers. Moms are very quickly aware that they do not have the means to meet all the basic needs of their children and accept care well, ”continues Jérôme Obry.

This crèche, which has everything of a traditional crèche, is backed by a care unit which facilitates the daily monitoring of babies. But to solve the problem, or avoid it before it occurs, parents are also helped, especially during workshops. The three-year duration of the experiment corresponds to this famous period of ” First 1,000 days Of the child, crucial for its development. “An evaluation will be carried out at the end, but we have no doubt that this device will be beneficial for everyone”, insists the director of Rigolo comme la vie. The involvement of funders such as the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the department and the Family Allowance Fund is not necessarily disinterested: “The first objective is to allow the child to grow up well and his family. to flourish. The economic objective is to reduce costs. A 9-year-old child taken care of by the community is 100,000 euros per year, ”insists the CEO. Winner winner.
