A couple in court for scamming elderly people on the Côte d’Azur

Cannes, Le Cannet, Antibes or even Cagnes-sur-Mer. A 44-year-old man and his 42-year-old girlfriend passed through all these towns on the Côte d’Azur and did not leave empty-handed. For several months, they ripped off seniors in grocery stores. In Cannes alone, the damage is estimated at 18,000 euros, according to information from Nice morning, for twenty victims.

Caught in the act in Fréjus, in the Var, they were heard by the Cannes security and will have to answer for their offenses committed in the Alpes-Maritimes, this Friday, before the parquet floor of Grasse.

Already known to justice for credit card scams

Their strategy, reproduced identically in each location, was to identify an elderly person and the amount of his shopping. At the checkout, the other person of the couple, presenting himself as an employee of the store, pretended an error to ask the victim to redo his code. Then, generally the woman, assuring that the operation had not worked, left with the bank card to solve the problem in the establishment but never returned.

Still according to the local daily, this couple is already known to the courts for having credit card scams at vending machines.
