A competition launched to see the blasting of a coal-fired power station tower

It’s going to go boom! On February 11, the ground at the Saint-Avold coal power plant (Moselle), which has just restarted in the cold, will shake. Nothing to worry about: the blasting of the tallest of the old air-cooling towers, known as “TAR 5”, is planned for a long time.

At a height of approximately 120 meters, it will be struck by lightning in the morning using explosives. The goal ? To ultimately transform the site into an eco-platform producing sustainable energy. There will then remain at least one “TAR” to destroy, the last one in activity.

The story is not there and for February 11, Gazel Énergie, the operator of the site, is organizing a competition. Gift ? Places, ten in total, to watch the blasting. To participate, simply answer one question before February 1 at 5 p.m.: “How high is the TAR 5 tower? “. Then all that remains is to “like and share” the organizer’s Facebook page. “A draw will determine the 5 winners of 2 places each for the blasting and the lunch cocktail, the activities for young and old and the industrial history showroom of the Émile-Huchet site. »
