The consultation commission for private education chaired by the prefect of the North voted, Monday, November 27, in favor of terminating the association contract linking the Lille Muslim high school Averroès to the State, sources close to the matter indicated. has France Blue North. The directors of the establishment were summoned before this consultative commission. The prefect of the North Georges-François Leclerc will announce his decision in the coming days.

The establishment of 473 students, opened in 2003, is singled out for a Qatari donation in 2014, a disputed religious work in the bibliography of spiritual teaching, and management irregularities. “These are insinuations, there is not the slightest element, there is no link with the Muslim Brotherhood,” assures one of the lawyers of the Joseph Breham high school.

In 2014, the high school received a donation from a Qatari NGO of around 900,000 euros, which allowed it to purchase its current premises. The director of the establishment Éric Dufour indicates for his part that the high school has not received any foreign donations since 2015 and that all funding is transparent. If the contract between the high school and the State was effectively broken, National Education would stop paying teachers, and the Region would stop paying extracurricular staff.

One of the lawyers of the Averroès high school, Joseph Breham, denounces “feeling of hostility” from the authorities during the commission meeting on Monday. He also describes this meeting as “caricature”, maintaining in particular that no representative of the establishment was able “finish one of his remarks”.
