Illuminating and Ultimate Gray: the colors of the year 2021 by Pantone

This is not the first time that Pantone has offered a duo rather than a single shade as the Color of the Year. In 2016, the undisputed color specialist had already proposed a tender duo, composed of quartz pink and soft blue Serenity. For this year 2021, it is therefore the Illuminating yellow and the Ultimate Gray that have been crowned.

In a period shaken by an unprecedented global health crisis, Pantone wanted its colors of the year to be both energizing and strengthening. Bright and cheerful, Illuminating yellow is distinguished by its solar dynamism. The Ultimate Gray color evokes the quiet – almost eternal – strength of stone. If the symbolism is strong, the association is also clever: this medium gray is above all a muted color, which boosts the energetic Illuminating yellow.

Pantone colors 2021: the most beautiful color combinations

Sober and soft, gray is more and more attractive, to the point that it tends to become essential in our interiors. Yellow, on the other hand, tends to be of concern, especially when it’s as potent as the Illuminating shade. Like every year, however, Pantone offers very pretty palettes, to inspire fans of trendy decor who do not know how to apprehend the colors of the year.
