A car from the “Objective Mars” attraction catches fire at Futuroscope, two women injured

The Objective Mars attraction at the Futuroscope in Poitiers will remain closed until further notice. This Friday morning, around 10:15 a.m., a fire broke out on a wagon at this flagship attraction in the Vienne theme park, injuring two women who were on the roller coaster.

“A lithium battery located on the second carriage of a train caught fire at the end of the journey. The fire was quickly brought under control by the teams on site, ”indicates the management of Futuroscope in a press release. The two visitors “were injured in the first degree and taken care of by the emergency services”, specified a spokesperson for the park located in Chasseneuil-du-Poitou, north of Poitiers.

Ear, neck and shin injuries

According to TF1, one of the victims “was particularly affected by the flames, injured in the ears and neck”. The channel broadcast a video filmed by a witness where we see two men with fire extinguishers extinguishing flames under the seats of the wagons, under cries of panic. “The attraction was immediately shut down (…) and the visitors were quickly evacuated”, specified the management of the park, which recalls that this attraction was put into service in March 2020 and was “the subject of daily checks as well as complete maintenance recommended by the manufacturer”.
