Hardly any other German defense minister was thrown into cold water as quickly as Boris Pistorius. The previous SPD Interior Minister of Lower Saxony took over the office in the middle of a historic week: with the decision-making phase on Leopard tanks for Kyiv, with the visit of US colleague Lloyd Austin and the NATO meeting in Ramstein on how to proceed in the Ukraine war . Pistorius’ predecessor Christine Lambrecht (SPD) resigned on Monday after months of criticism of her leadership – a victim more of that position, which has always been one of the most delicate in the federal cabinet. Time for a historical balance, from Blank to Lambrecht.
