A brief blackout deprives 50,000 inhabitants of electricity in Saône-et-Loire

The high temperatures that hit France this weekend had many consequences. For 50,000 inhabitants of Saône-et-Loire, they caused a power outage this Sunday morning for two and a half hours, AFP learned from the prefecture.

“A breakdown at the Montchanin Electricity Transport Network (RTE) substation, obviously linked to high temperatures, led to the shutdown of four Enedis source substations (Le Creusot, Autun, Epinac, Montchanin) in around 04:00 in the morning, causing power cuts and breakdowns on the telephone antennas”, specifies the prefecture in a press release.

Normal situation from 6:30 a.m.

About 50,000 inhabitants of the northwest quarter of the department were affected, particularly in the municipalities of Creusot, Montchanin, Autun, Étang-sur-Arroux and Saint-Gengoux-le-national.

RTE and Enedis restored the equipment and the situation returned to normal around 6:30 a.m., according to the prefecture, which lifted the departmental operational center set up in the early morning to manage the situation.
