A barge hits a bridge in the Drôme, its deceased pilot

The pilot of a barge died on Saturday evening following an accident on the Donzère-Mondragon canal (Drôme). The boat hit the pile of a bridge around 9 p.m., we learned this Sunday from the Valence prosecutor’s office. The body of the victim, aged about sixty, had to be extricated from the cockpit on Sunday morning.

The other seven members of the crew, of Ukrainian nationality according to the prosecution, are safe and sound. The pilot was of French nationality.

The boat itself was put to safety on Sunday morning, after being towed by a building of the same company, said the prefecture of Drôme. River traffic was then reopened.
