A baby African penguin is born at Planet Ocean

pink notebook, Planet Ocean. A baby Cape penguin was born on January 10 in the colony hosted by the Montpellier complex (Hérault), which includes an aquarium and a planetarium. After living its very first days out of sight, the little animal pointed the tip of its beak outside the family nest. Visitors to Planet Ocean have been able to admire its fluffy silver plumage for the past few days.

The parents of this little animal, whose sex is not yet known, are Jethro, the male, and Cali, the female. This very faithful couple has given birth to five other babies since 2011. With this newcomer, there are now 18 penguins at Planet Ocean.

Internet users are invited to participate in the baptism of this ball of feathers. Three first names are proposed: Skat, which means “treasure” in Afrikaans, Kim, an African plain in the same language, or Mumble, the cartoon star Happy Feet. To vote, it’s happening until March 22, on the Planet Ocean Facebook page.
