No virtual ceremony via Zoom, but stars in the flesh on the red carpet! Due to the pandemic, the 93rd Annual Oscars will be held this year at a historic downtown Los Angeles train station, Union Station, on April 25, not the traditional Dolby Theater.

The organizers of the ceremony on Monday promised in a statement “a truly galactic areopagus of stars”, so dazzling that “sunglasses may be necessary”.

Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford and Reese Witherspoon

Alongside Harrison Ford and Reese Witherspoon, to present the Oscars in flesh and blood, we will find the winners of the 2020 edition, such as Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Zendaya, Renee Zellweger and Laura Dern, as well as the South- Korean Bong Joon-ho, sacred for his film Parasite, best feature film.

Stars such as Angela Bassett, Halle Berry and Bryan Cranston will also be on the red carpet, the first of such magnitude since the Covid-19 hit Hollywood in March 2020, upsetting the schedule of the film industry and causing the closing of dark rooms.

Thanks to a clear improvement in the health situation, notably enabled by the rise in vaccinations, California is now accelerating the resumption of its economic and cultural activities.

Steven Soderbergh, at the helm

Venues have also been planned in the UK and France for selected artists who would not be able to travel to Los Angeles to attend the ceremony in person.

The Oscar night will be directed for the sixth time by Glenn Weiss, a renowned expert in this kind of event, with Steven Soderbergh, director of the film, in production. Contagion.

“We want the Oscars this year to look like a movie, not a TV show,” the production insisted.
