May the force be with you ! The backup battery is the essential link in the techno chain when you are mobile, and even more so on vacation. Also called Powerbank, it is this which will revitalize your smartphone, but also your headphones, tablet, portable game console, connected watch… or laptop when no electrical outlet will be available on the horizon. In any case, this is the promise of the Laptop Power Bank of the Einova brand that 20 minutes was able to test even before packing. Special feature: it can load everything, and quickly!
20,000 mAh on-board, 63 Watts of power
The small Powerbanks dedicated to smartphones only have found their master: the Laptop Power Bank from Einova which offers many more. With a capacity of 20,000 mAh with a charging power of 63 watts, this small block the size of a paperback book fits easily into a bag. Having accompanied us for a week for our first face-to-face post-Covid meetings, the Laptop Power Bank was able to be discreet in our backpack, but also rather light: 455 grams. It is a paving stone, of course, but not a brick.
Covered with an anthracite gray fabric with a reinforced plastic border on its contours, it does not mismatch on a desk or on a garden table on which one can imagine it posed during the summer. Sold with a USC-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter, you just have to charge it and then forget about it.
A MacBook Air recharged in less than 3 hours
Besides its rather phenomenal capacity (although there are Powerbanks that have a capacity of up to 50,000 mAh), the Laptop Power Bank has another advantage: its fast charging system. Thus, it is equipped with a 45 W USB-C port, a USB Quick charge port and a standard USB port. We tested the first with a latest generation MacBook Air with a completely empty battery. Barely 3 hours were enough to refuel it completely, while using it during this sequence to complete an article.
During this time, we recharged our smartphone, already exhausted by its half-day of work on the central Quick Charge port. Its 58% battery went to 100% in about 1h15. The last port was used to restore some energy to a pair of in-ear headphones under test, the new CX True Wireless from Sennheiser.
A precious control screen
Observation: if it is necessary to remember to keep with you the cables necessary for the proper charging of this equipment (the only one supplied by Einova will not be enough!), The Laptop Power Bank is extremely practical. Its simultaneity of loading combined with its certain speed is an indisputable advantage.
Appreciable and reassuring: its small LCD screen which allows you to know the percentage of energy remaining in the battery at any time. Thus, the Laptop Power Bank can recharge the equivalent of 4 to 8 smartphones, 3 to 4 tablets and 1.5 laptops on a single charge. Lovers of long summer walks and nights under the Quechua without the proximity of a power outlet can leave in peace!
Regret: Einova’s battery is not supplied with its AC adapter. It will therefore be necessary to recover one in its collection or offer one (from 10 euros for a simple model, up to forty euros for an adapter with two or three USB sockets to connect to). And it lacks a carrying case, an unforgivable oversight for a device sold for 99 euros. An expensive device, certainly, but reliable as we have seen, and ready to go on an adventure.
