The child fell for unknown reasons and was hit by a car.

A dramatic news item took place on Tuesday April 9 at the end of the afternoon in Rennes. A 2.5-year-old child died after being hit by a car.

The events occurred when leaving a parking lot. “It seems that he was walking in a parking lot, a few meters behind his mother pushing a bicycle herself”declared the public prosecutor, Philippe Astruc, at Telegram. The little boy then fell for an unknown reason and a car was traveling “at low speed” hit him. The child was taken to hospital in a state of absolute emergency by firefighters but died from his injuries. His mother is in shock.

The driver is “a Georgian national born in 1983 in an irregular situation on the national territory, under OQTF, not holding a driving license”, said the prosecutor. The driver then continued driving before stopping.

The man was arrested and taken into custody for “manslaughter by a driver who did not hold a driving license”. Alcohol and drug tests were negative, the prosecutor said.
