A gnome in the garden
Conifers are characterized by their evergreen foliage and their graphic silhouette. Common in our gardens, they are part of the plantations which allow them to retain color, including in the depths of winter. Here are perfect allies for creating a fun Christmas decoration in the garden!
Rather than bringing out garlands and hanging ornaments and decorating these trees like a classic Christmas tree, we start by creating a red felt hat. Add a pair of gloves stuffed with crumpled newspaper, hang a ball of wool as a nose, and here is a very convincing Christmas gnome.
Don’t hesitate to improvise with what you have at hand. A simple potato can be transformed into a nose!
For a more Santa-like look, decorate the lower part of your tree instead. Tie a red ribbon around your evergreen, then create a white beard using strips of white fabric.
An XXL candy cane
Candy cane is one of the Christmas motifs that has become iconic. To make large models that will adorn the entrance, fence or terrace, use foam pool fries and a wide adhesive tape, which you will wrap around it.
To make a classic candy cane, use strong wire to give your foam decoration the desired shape, and remember to add a pretty bow.
The alternative is to create a giant lollipop, by rolling the fry around itself. This option requires using a glue gun. Finish by attaching a stick to the back of your “candy cane” and, optionally, adding a wrapper and a bow!
Nutcracker
Very popular vintage pattern in the 19e century, The Nutcracker has once again become one of the great stars of Christmas. One of the prettiest decorations to hang on the tree, it is also found as a wooden subject to decorate the fireplace or window. In the garden, we opt for a very large model so that it has maximum effect.
To make this character in a very large format, you don’t need to know how to sculpt: you just need to recover an old shutter and customize it!
With their slender silhouette, the shutters constitute suitable supports for other emblematic characters of the end of year holidays that are easier to draw, such as Santa Claus or the snowman.
A bright decor
Wooden logs allow you to create delightful outdoor Christmas decorations. Reindeer have become classics, but they’re not the only option.
To illuminate the garden by thinking a little off the beaten track, simply create (very) large format candles. Securely secure your logs vertically. Use a jigsaw to create the shape of a flame, and after painting it, attach it to the log. Finally, accessorize your creation with fir branches or a plant garland, and a bow or Christmas baubles.
You don’t have the necessary equipment to cut the flames? Never mind: go for a simpler alternative, by sawing the logs at an angle, and painting them!
A flourishing garden
There are many decorative ideas for decorating windows for Christmas. The challenge ? Find a great idea for the exterior. Among the smartest: the Christmas planter. The principle is simple: we bring out our pots and planters, but instead of traditional plants, we install decorations.
Depending on the type of decoration you want to make, you can fill your planter with soil or garnish it with floral foam, into which you will stick branches, ornaments and bright decorations. If this is an effective way to create a harmonious facade, you can extend the concept, for example by garnishing the balcony planters, or hanging pots.
