The lights are always positive. According to figures from Public Health France on Tuesday, May 18, the number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care services continued to decline. Critical care services (which bring together resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring) now have 4,015 patients against 4,186 the day before.
This figure had remained around 5,900 to 6,000 during the second half of April, the peak of the third wave, before falling sharply in early May. The number of admissions to these wards stands at 247 patients after being relatively low during the long Ascension weekend (between 100 and just over 150) and 204 on Monday.
996 new people hospitalized in 24 hours
The number of hospitalizations as a whole also continues to decrease to 22,058 against 22,749 the day before, the lowest since the end of October 2020. 996 new people hospitalized with a Covid-19 diagnosis have also been recorded in the last 24 hours.
The epidemic has killed 187 people in 24 hours in hospital, bringing the total number of deaths to 108,069 since the onset of the disease in France. The positivity rate remains stable at 4.5% over seven days (consolidated at D-3). 17,210 people have tested positive in the past 24 hours.
The General Directorate of Health (DGS) on Tuesday identified 21,094,191 French people having received at least one dose of vaccine, including 9.1 million who received two. The government is targeting 30 million first injections by mid-June.
