After a week with numerous actions on Lower Saxony’s streets, the protest by farmers and others involved is approaching its climax. The tractors drive to Berlin for the large demonstration.
The rural people estimate that 2,000 to 3,000 farmers from Lower Saxony will be there. The first farmers set off for the capital with their tractors on Sunday, including from the Rotenburg district, the Wesermarsch and Ammerland. Tractors from Göttingen, the Harz and Braunschweiger Land want to set off for Berlin on Sunday evening. According to information from NDR Lower Saxony, some farmers travel by train or car. However, the majority travel to the capital by bus.
Protest against cuts in subsidies
The protests, in which large numbers of farmers in particular are taking part, are directed against planned subsidy cuts by the federal government. The refund for agricultural diesel is to be gradually eliminated. That the traffic light coalition has withdrawn part of its cuts plans is not enough for the Federal Farmers’ Association.
