A Somali man was caught at Zurich airport with a suitcase full of drugs. It is said to be 47 kilograms of khat leaves. It is the second case within a few days.
Khat is an intoxicating drug made by chewing the leaves of the Catha edulis plant. It is particularly widespread in East Africa and the Middle East. In Switzerland and Germany it is prohibited under the Narcotics Act. At the beginning of the year, two drug couriers were busted in Zurich with more than 100 kilograms of khat and escaped with fines.
