Aubing: City Council decides planning competition for village center – Munich

Aubing gets a redesigned village center. The planning committee of the city council set the course for this on Tuesday: There will be a planning competition for the area of ​​the future village square on Ubostraße, the area in front of the station and the Giglweg that connects the two areas. The town hall politicians also voted for an extension of the idea part to include the Belandwiese and the area at Ubostraße 7-9, where the THW, a riding stable, the Aubinger Tenne youth club and the Ubo 9 cultural center are located. This extension was not included in the original draft resolution.

The city councilors are thus supporting the Aubinger’s long-standing request to think more spaciously. And at the same time make sure that the realization doesn’t drag on any further. The head of the SPD/Volt parliamentary group, Christian Müller, said he was “happy” at the meeting that the project was “finally being implemented” after the many critical debates. It is “about time”. Heike Kainz (CSU), who pointed out the important strengthening of the old town center in view of the Freiham neighborhood, and the Green politician Paul Bickelbacher made similar statements. The redesign is also to be financed with urban development funds, and according to Bickelbacher, these funds “will not last forever”.

The politicians also agreed that there must be a barrier-free solution for the Aubing train station as soon as possible – both with regard to an underpass and access to the platform. Kainz knows of wheelchair users who drive the 350 meters from the train station to the level crossing at Germeringer Weg on Georg-Böhmer-Straße, and then take the path back to the platform right next to the tracks. This shows “that it is super urgent to finally do something”. So far there is only one staircase at the station.

The motion by the FDP and the Bavarian party to plan and build a “not particularly expensive” temporary ramp from the city side by the end of 2023 did not find a majority in the committee. The railway, argued the social democrat Müller, had repeatedly stated that it did not want to implement any preliminary measures before the station was renovated. City councilor Fritz Roth (FDP), on the other hand, says that the railways are “open” to such a solution. “During an informal discussion in August, both the Ministry of Transport and the railways clearly gave the go-ahead for a temporary ramp planned and financed by the city,” explains the FDP politician when asked. In any case, the planning department is open to the implementation of a provisional solution: “If you’ve heard that it’s possible and that we can build it ourselves,” said one of the city’s redevelopment employees at the committee meeting, “then we’d like to support it.”

The years of bickering is grueling, especially for Aubinger. In order not to let the situation be forgotten, some citizens installed a mini ramp at the station themselves last July. The railway promptly demanded that this be removed immediately, and if there was a “renewed intervention in railway operations”, the company reserved the right to file a complaint.
