Katharina Althaus won the first competition of the World Cup weekend in Sapporo.
After a jump of 122 meters in the first round, she managed the longest jump of the day in the final. With 131 meters, the woman from Oberstdorf made the victory clear and clearly relegated the competitors in the Olympic city of 1972 to their places. For Althaus it was the eleventh success of her career.
“I’m really happy to finally win here after the ups and downs”said Althaus: “I’m super happy to be back up there. To be honest, I didn’t think that when I came here.”
Second place went to Slovenian Ema Klinec on Saturday (07.01.2023). Austria’s top jumper Eva Pinkelnig was third.
Friday shines sixth
Selina Freitag was able to shine with a strong sixth place. Pauline Hessler was 17th, Anna Rupprecht 19th and Luisa Görlich rounded off the good team result with 21st.
Pinkelnig continues to lead the World Cup rankings
In the overall World Cup, Althaus, who was on the podium for the sixth time in the tenth competition of the winter, is still second with 627 points behind Pinkelnig (776). Another competition is scheduled for Sunday in Sapporo.
