Khaled Hosseini’s novel “The Kite Runner” looked back on the first Taliban era in Afghanistan. How does the writer see the renewed seizure of power? A conversation about the pictures from Kabul and the question of what happens now for the people there.

Khaled Hosseini had to leave his family’s homeland as a child, but for many in the west the doctor and author is one of the most important explanations of Afghanistan: his novel “The Kite Runner” from 2003 reflected the violence against minorities in the country and the first rule of the Taliban Escape story. The novel sold more than eight million copies worldwide, and “A Thousand Shining Suns” (2007) and “Dream Collectors” (2013) were bestsellers. Today, after the renewed fall of Kabul to the Taliban, Hosseini has to interpret Afghanistan again: US news stations ask to switch from his living room in Northern California, where he is also reached by the SZ.
