The five German clubs in the Champions League will be drawn into eight groups of four in the group stage draw this Thursday (6 p.m.).
The five German clubs in the Champions League will be drawn into eight groups of four in the group stage draw this Thursday (6 p.m.).
The total of 32 clubs will be drawn from four pots, sorted using coefficients from the European Football Union UEFA, which measure the success of previous seasons.
Seeded in pot 1 are FC Bayern and Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt. In addition, defending champions Real Madrid and the champions of the leagues with the highest country coefficients are in the top lottery pot.
The other pots are divided according to the club coefficients. RB Leipzig is in pot 2, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen in pot 3 – the two clubs from North Rhine-Westphalia are therefore threatened with a heavier group on paper. For example, BVB or Bayer could play against Manchester City, FC Barcelona and Olympique Marseille. Duels between teams from the same nations are excluded in the group phase.
