It’s hay fever high season – and this year it’s particularly bad for people with pollen allergies: why masks help and why going to the doctor can make sense.
Why is hay fever so bad right now?
Two things are coming together this year: in contrast to the severe summer droughts at the turn of the decade, there was already a severe drought in the spring. As with all types of dust, pollen floats best in dry air. Drafts caused by wind, but also by traffic, whirl them up again. As a result, pollen allergy sufferers have now been exposed to a particularly high dose of pollen for weeks. There is also a special feature in the growth cycle of trees.
