Hertha BSC remains in a strange situation. The fans celebrate the team. The association stands together in the confrontation with investor Windhorst. A win just doesn’t want to happen.

The reference to the parallels with the national soccer team confused Sandro Schwarz. The Hertha BSC coach called four draws in a row an “unusual series”. But “drawing cross-comparisons” with the DFB selection, which had also made a curious draw quartet in the first half of the year, Schwarz found that “a bit wild”. In any case, he “hasn’t yet thought of calling Hansi Flick,” said the Berlin coach, who simply found the 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg “annoying” on Sunday.

In the club, which was shaken up by the quarrel with million-dollar investor Lars Windhorst, Schwarz has his own thoughts about the causes of the series, which optimists perceive as five games without defeat, but critical companions as four games without a win, which Hertha after a good quarter of the season Bundesliga remains in 14th place. Just two points from the relegation zone.

Black sees no trend. Every draw has different reasons “viewed differently”. Against Leverkusen (2:2) a clear penalty was denied, against Mainz (1:1) there was an equalizer with the last action, against Hoffenheim (1:1) the opponent was really good and now against Freiburg, there it was Goalkeeper Oliver Christensen made a mistake when Kevin Schade equalized. Name games would be a good idea for this goal scorer.

The Hertha paradox this fall: You are in the same dangerous table region as you have been for a good two years. But everyone seems happy – apart from the Windhorst vortex. The Berliners have made a change under Schwarz in the team and the new president Kay Bernstein in the club: There is a sense of togetherness again, an identity that was buried for a long time.

Schwarz does not want to let pessimism into his world of ideas either. “What should we talk about now that the season is tipping over. We know that it’s difficult to win Bundesliga games week after week,” said the 43-year-old. “The order is to keep at it.” National coach Flick could hope before the next game on Saturday at RB Leipzig. The national team’s four draws were followed by a stunning 5-2 win against Italy in June.
