Regardless of the open financing, according to a media report, the federal states have specific ideas about what a successor to the 9-euro ticket should look like.

The transport ministers of the federal states are pushing for a successor to the 9-euro ticket, which expired after three months at the end of August. According to a report by the “Rheinische Post”, they agreed on the first key points for the new offer before their conference, which started on Wednesday.

It all boils down to a 49-euro ticket. Similar to the 9-euro ticket, this should be valid nationwide in regional and local transport and marketed under the title “Klimaticket Deutschland”. “It is personalized and non-transferrable,” the newspaper said in an internal paper. The offer should be available both digitally and on paper. The price of 49 euros per month refers to a subscription – but it could also increase later. At 49 euros, this is already more expensive than a frequently requested 29-euro ticket.

9-euro ticket successor depends on financing

According to the report, the central municipal associations, transport associations and the house of Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) have already given their okay – now everything depends on the money and thus above all on Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (also FDP). The federal states are demanding more financial support from the federal government for financing local public transport. It is not yet clear whether they will get this.

The 9-euro ticket was introduced in July for a limited period of three months to relieve citizens of the high fuel and energy prices. For nine euros a month, it enabled unlimited travel on the nationwide local public transport system. It has been sold more than 50 million times, and season ticket subscribers received it automatically.

The transport ministers meet in Bremerhaven on Wednesday and Thursday for their regular meeting. In addition to the 9-euro ticket successor, topics such as noise and climate protection through Tempo 30 and the expansion of rail transport and electromobility are also on the agenda.
