9-0: Liverpool ridicule Bournemouth to equal Premier League record

Two draws against Fulham (2-2) and Crystal Palace (1-1) followed by a defeat on the field of Manchester United (1-2): Liverpool had started their season badly. The arrival at Anfield of the weak Bournemouth team was ideal for the Reds to finally get started. They did not miss the opportunity (9-0).

Only three other teams have won by this scoreline in Premier League history (Manchester United v Ipswich in 1995, Leicester v Southampton in 2019 and United v Saints in 2021), and no one has ever gone 10-0 .

Rid for a time of competition from Jota (injured) and Nunez (suspended), Roberto Firmino was immense. The 30-year-old Brazilian was responsible for goals from Diaz (header, 3rd), Elliott (left-side shot, 6th) and Alexander-Arnold (magnificent long shot, 28th). In the 31st minute he scored at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time in almost two years by driving a deflected cross into the back of the net. He again shook the nets in the 62nd, on the lookout for a ball pushed back to his feet by Travers.

And yet, Salah was not successful

Van Dijk had scored the fifth goal for the Reds, with a powerful header on receipt of a corner from Robertson (45th). The sixth had been the work of Mepham (csc) on a cross from Alexander-Arnold (46th). The eighth goal was scored by incoming Fabio Carvalho (80th), decidedly very interesting at the start of the season. The ninth, that of the equaled record, was for Diaz (85th), on receipt of a corner.

Against crushed Cherries, the Reds were very strong, although Salah was not successful. The Egyptian missed two huge chances (17th, 75th) and saw Travers slam his recovery from the 19th for a corner. With this success, Liverpool temporarily rises to the first half of the standings (8th), while Bournemouth concedes a third loss in a row after starting the season with a victory against Aston Villa (2-0).
