86-year-old man admits to killing his wife with Alzheimer’s

He said he “no longer could take care of” her. In Marseille, an 86-year-old man was indicted on Saturday for intentional homicide after confessing to the murder of his partner suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

The events occurred on Tuesday in the couple’s apartment. The body of the victim, whose age was not specified, was discovered by a nurse who came to provide her daily care. Upon her arrival, she also prevented the octogenarian from ending his life, specifies the Marseille prosecutor’s office.

Stabbed in the throat

The autopsy revealed that the suspect had dealt “several blows with a sharp weapon to the throat” of his partner. The man, himself “suffering from a serious illness at an advanced stage”, “immediately admitted the facts”, adds the prosecution.

At the end of his police custody on Wednesday, the suspect was “placed under judicial supervision” with in particular an “obligation of psychological and/or psychiatric care”.
