Nancy Pelosi wants to run again for a seat in the US Congress in the next election in 2024. The former Democratic leader of the US House of Representatives announced this on Platform X. The 83-year-old ended speculation about her retirement from politics.
Pelosi is already one of the oldest members of the House of Representatives. She will be 84 years old in the election in November 2024, and will be 86 at the end of another two-year term. She was first elected to Congress in 1987 for her constituency of San Francisco.
Hope also to recapture the chamber
Republicans currently have a majority in Congress, but only just 222 votes to 212 with one open seat. Democrats believe they can retake the chamber in 2024 if Biden runs for re-election.
Pelosi was the first woman in US history to become the powerful chairwoman of the House of Representatives – from 2007 to 2011 and from 2019 to 2023. With the change in the majority in the House of Representatives, Pelosi withdrew from the leadership of her group in January. But she still has great influence among the Democrats.

The advanced age of many prominent politicians is always an issue in the United States – not least because Joe Biden is the oldest president to date in office. He also wants to run for re-election next year. When elected in November 2024, Biden will be 81 years old and at the end of a possible second term he would be 86 years old.
