In heavy rain, an 81-year-old was driving the wrong way on Autobahn 93 late on Saturday evening. Due to carelessness and because of the heavy showers, she drove onto the Autobahn in the opposite direction to the traffic at the Schwandorf-Mitte junction, the police said. Several drivers who met the wrong-way driver called the police. Numerous police patrols would then have gone onto the motorway and stopped the traffic in the meantime. Finally, the wrong-way driver was found at the Schwandorf-Süd junction. She had noticed her mistake and turned around in the area of a construction site. The woman now expects a display, a “sensitive” fine and a driving ban. In addition, she must expect that the driver’s license office will check her general fitness to drive, it said.
A wrong-way driver caused an accident on Autobahn 94 in the district of Altötting and then simply drove on. The wrong-way driver drove on Monday morning around 6 a.m. near Neuötting in the direction of Munich in the left lane, said a police spokesman. To avoid a collision, an oncoming van driver had to swerve. The vehicle was thrown against the guardrail, overturned and came to a stop on its side. The 60-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The police are still looking for the wrong-way driver.
