77% of NFT art sales in the past 21 months are from male artists, with only 5% being female artists.

A recent study on the state of the art non-fungible token (NFT) market highlights gender inequality in the cryptocurrency world. from a study conducted by a research agency called Art Tactic and reported by Bloomberg It found that at least 77% of NFT’s proceeds from art sales in the past 21 months went to male artists, with only 5% being female artists.

Additionally, 16% of sales come from creators who are “unknown” gender – thus the Bloomberg report on the study does not specify how many female NFT artists are.

But whether the disparity is on the buyer’s side or on the artist’s side, musician Grimes is the only woman on Art Tactic’s list of the 10 best-selling NFT artists thanks to blockbuster sales on the Nifty Gateway marketplace. Winklevoss owned it earlier this year.

The Art Tactic study also highlights the broader wealth inequality in NFT sales, as Art Tactic found 55% of all money generated by NFT art sales over the past 21 months. It comes from only 16 artists.
