77 meter high wind turbine catches fire

The pictures are impressive. Thursday around 5 p.m. in Vendée, firefighters intervened in a field located in Froidfond for a fire that had just started on a wind turbine 77 meters high. The intervention, which lasted more than two hours, mainly consisted of setting up a security perimeter of 200 meters around the device, in order to avoid any risk, in particular of falling.

Indeed, before finally going out, the flames had spread to a blade 40 meters long, reports the Vendée fire and rescue service. An investigation was opened by the gendarmerie, in particular to determine the origin of the fire. According to the Courrier Vendéen, the incident could be linked to the strong gusts of wind. The newspaper explains that “the wind turbine turning too fast, a spark could have formed”.
