According to a survey carried out by the OpinionWay institute among 6,458 people in eight countries for A22, the promoter of the Superleague, 72% of football fans questioned would be in favor of the creation of such a competition.
This result can undoubtedly be explained by the process used. Respondents were asked to give their opinion after watching a video presenting the potential format of the competition, answering the question: “To what extent are you in favor or not of the creation of this European Super League? »
PSG fans more favorable than OL fans
In detail, this study carried out within the eight countries with the highest UEFA coefficient reveals some geographical and demographic disparities. The potential membership rate is highest in Spain (84%), Portugal (81%) and Italy (80%). Germany (61%) and the United Kingdom (65%) are a little more hesitant.
France is average (75%) but the answers vary depending on the club supported. 81% of people who say they are fans of PSG are in favor, compared to only 66% for those of OL.
The disparities are also generational: 86% of 18-24 year olds and 81% of 25-34 year olds say they are in favor of the creation of a Superleague, compared to 59% of those over 65. Moreover, it is only in this age group that the reluctance can be in the majority: the idea only garners 43% of favorable opinions among those over 65 in Germany, and 46% among their British counterparts. On the other hand, it reaches 93% among Spanish 18-24 year olds.
