70 people evacuated in the fire of an HLM

Seventy people were evacuated overnight from Saturday to Sunday in a building in Montpellier, in the Hauts de Massane district of La Paillade. It was around 3 a.m. when a vehicle caught fire in a basement box and hit the neighboring box. The thick smoke then spread to the entire HLM via the stairwell.

Only two boxes were affected by the flames

When the firefighters arrived, around forty people had already left their apartments. Thirty other residents were then woken up and asked to leave their homes temporarily.

The action of 30 firefighters from the neighboring barracks made it possible to quickly circumscribe the fire and limit it to the two boxes initially affected. At this stage of the investigation, the origin of the fire is undetermined.
