Children’s birthday party: 7 ideas for gifts – Or: What exactly is a giveaway?
Children’s birthday parties are colorful and fun. But they also want to be organized. Here you can find out everything that goes with it and which giveaways are popular in 2022.

Children’s birthdays are the biggest thing for our little ones. For mum and dad, on the other hand, the fun afternoon often turns into stress. What you should think about in advance and which giveaways could be the hit in 2022.
I have to admit that the memories of my own children’s birthday parties are rather pale. Probably also because the afternoon parties with my friends from elementary school were more than three decades ago. I can’t even say exactly how many of my classmates I was allowed to invite back then. But I remember one thing very well: hitting the pot. It was a hit at children’s birthday parties in the 1980s. At least where I grew up. Of course there was also cake. And small prizes for the winners of the egg race, eating chocolate with a knife and fork or other games. Why am I writing this? Well, nowadays children’s birthdays are celebrated a little differently. I know that because I’ve been taking my kids to their daycare friends’ parties (and picking them up again) at irregular intervals for a few years now and, together with my wife, I’ve been able to co-host our boys’ day of honor. And that’s quite a project. Two rounds of beating and a chocolate sponge cake are no longer enough. Today’s quilts have become more sophisticated. Or does it only seem that way to me because the perspective is different?
Children’s birthday checklist: That’s how it works today
- Discuss the motto of the party / look for a location. Here, the mood swings and the spontaneity of the offspring must be taken into account. If it’s just a Ninjago party, a monster birthday or a Pokemon party could quickly be up for debate.
- Carefully maintain the guest list. Here, too, parents often have to show strong nerves. For two reasons: On the one hand, even five-year-olds haggle over every guest because they find the unwritten rule (5th birthday = 5 guests, and so on) stupid. In addition, preschool children bicker and get along with each other practically every day, which makes the decision for or against an invitation tricky.
- Make and distribute invitations. If the guest list is more or less definitive, you can start tinkering. Depending on the motto, this can also take one or more evenings. Best case scenario, grab the junior host to cut out, glue and scribble the sender on the card.
- Answer questions about birthday wishes. Of course, nothing is given away these days. So that the party mood doesn’t sink into the cellar immediately after unwrapping the presents, you should check what’s on the wish list. If the whole thing threatens to get out of hand financially, teams can also be formed for a joint gift.
- Obtain the appropriate utensils for the motto. Of course, a dinosaur birthday party includes suitable decorations and suitable treats. Napkins, dinosaur snacks, dinosaur-style party hats, tattoosballoons, Dino table decoration and so forth. The following rule applies: the more unusual the motto, the more complex the search for accessories.
- Bake cakes, muffins or similar. For us, the “Easy Mug Kitchen” proven. There is something for every taste and even the little sibling can help to turn the kitchen into a battlefield when baking.
- Buy giveaways and pack them appropriately in party bags. The most important point of this list. Giveaway ideas follow in the second part of this article.
- Plan treasure hunts and other games. A children’s birthday party is not a children’s birthday party without a treasure hunt. Clear. It used to be called a scavenger hunt. I have no idea what was so bad about that. There are plenty of suggestions for this. for little secret agents and Unicorn fansjust to name two.
This list could be continued a little longer. I’ll leave it at this point with the eight most important to-dos. And now I want to focus on point 7 on the list. Because at children’s birthday parties there is an unwritten law: No guest should go home empty-handed. The magic word is: Giveaway. Why Giveaway? Probably because guest gifts are a bit dusty and old-fashioned. There is no other way I can explain this fantasy word, which is unknown even in the dictionary. Apart from that, my wife and I are faced with the question twice a year: What do we pack in the (gift) bags? Here are more than a handful of ideas and suggestions:
1. Snacks / fruit bars
When it comes to the overdose of sugar that children “inhale” at a children’s birthday party, two or three small snacks no longer matter. Sweets should not be missing in the party bag for the little guests. Gummy bears in all shapes, colors and varieties are popular, proven and heat-resistant. the mini bags from many manufacturers fit perfectly into the giveaway packages. 2. Skill games
The Rubik’s Cube is one of the most famous games of skill in the world. The goal: The movable elements of the cube must be turned and moved until each of the six sides shows only one color. A tricky thing that mainly appeals to the logical thinking of children (and adults). As a giveaway for the children’s birthday party, there is one Mini version of the Rubik’s Cube at. 3. Outdoor mini parachute

Cut out the motif, remove the cover film (!), place it in the desired place and press on with a damp cloth or rag. Complete. A gift that is always well received.
5. Puzzles
Patience is usually not that great for four to six-year-olds. Sharpeners, pencils, rulers and erasers are often very popular with preschool children, i.e. five or six year olds. Many can hardly wait to slide back and forth on the school desk for the first time. And of course there is also a suitable giveaway here. With these animal sharpeners you should make many of your little guests very happy.
