Investigators searched the apartments and houses of 62 suspects in Hesse last week. They are said to have owned child and youth pornography. Eight of them are accused of sexual abuse of minors.

In the fight against child pornography and abuse, almost 220 police officers searched the apartments and houses of 62 suspects throughout Hesse last week.

As the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in Wiesbaden announced on Monday, more than 50 of them are accused of producing, possessing and distributing child and youth pornography. Eight suspects are accused of sexually abusing under-18s.

Oldest accused 82 years old

According to the accused, there are 58 men and four women, the oldest of them is 82 years old, the youngest 15. According to the current status of the investigation, the accused are not in contact with each other and do not know each other.

The investigators secured a total of over 500 storage media, including computers, smartphones, tablets, USB sticks and DVDs. So far, ten of the accused have been questioned, the LKA said. In addition, an arrest warrant had been executed.

All over Hesse

The searches took place in Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Offenbach, Darmstadt, Hanau and Kassel. Other apartments and houses were searched in the districts of Groß-Gerau, Offenbach, Odenwald, Schwalm-Eder, Main-Kinzig, Wetterau, Marburg-Biedenkopf, Lahn-Dill, Gießen, Fulda, Hochtaunus, Main-Taunus, Darmstadt-Dieburg and Bergstrasse .

The responsible police unit, “BAO Focus”, was founded two years ago and deals exclusively with sexual offenses against children and young people. According to the LKA, around 800 suspects have been questioned so far and tens of thousands of storage media have been seized.
