He was a man of action. Someone who thought carefully, then got down to business and pushed ahead with changes with great energy. Johann Nepomuk Ritter von Nußbaum, born on September 2, 1829 in Haidhausen, was a surgeon with all his heart. He operated tirelessly. From 1860 he was “Ordinary Professor of Surgery” in Munich, from 1872 he headed the municipal surgical clinic. According to sources, he is said to have performed around 25,000 operations. It’s a good thing that his career went hand in hand with the invention of chloroform anesthesia in 1847.
