Out of anger, a man is said to have thrown a hammer through the window of a subway in Nuremberg and only just missed a woman. The 47-year-old has had to answer to the district court in Nuremberg since Tuesday. The public prosecutor accuses him of attempted murder in eight cases and damage to property. The accused stated in court that he could not remember the crime, a judicial spokeswoman said. He was able to identify the hammer as his on a photo.
According to the indictment, the 47-year-old is said to have hurled the hammer completely surprisingly at a subway station in September last year. This punched through the pane, causing it to shatter. Splinters slightly injured a passenger. The hammer flew almost five centimeters past the head of a young woman. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the accused therefore accepted that the eight people in the compartment could be fatally injured.
The 47-year-old explained through his defense attorney that he had been using drugs for several years. According to the indictment, he had also taken heroin and amphetamines and drunk alcohol the night before the crime. Before the attack on the subway, he had tried to get in touch with his ex-wife, his ex-girlfriend and his sister, but they all rejected him. As a result, he is said to have taken the subway aimlessly through Nuremberg “in a state of considerable frustration and aggression” until the hammer was thrown later.
