45,000 refugees fleeing Ukraine passed through France, which hosts 25,000

More than 45,000 people fleeing the war in Ukraine have passed through France, which has issued nearly 40,000 temporary residence permits, the Interior Ministry told AFP on Thursday. “45,370 people coming from Ukraine have been identified by the border police (PAF), including 637 third-country nationals” as of Wednesday evening, underlined the services of the Minister Delegate for Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa.

4.65 million refugees have fled Ukraine, according to the High Commissioner for Refugees

Since the first arrivals of displaced people fleeing the conflict – which started on February 24 – the French government has relied on this number of people checked by the PAF on their arrival in the territory. Figures which therefore do not represent the number of people actually received in France, since many Ukrainians quickly move to other countries, first and foremost Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom. Many other people can arrive in France without being checked. On Wednesday evening, France had issued 39,952 temporary residence permits to these people fleeing Ukraine, who are being issued “temporary protection” valid for six months renewable, we learned from the same source. To date, 25,881 people are accommodated in France. In addition, more than 39,000 of these exiles already have access to healthcare and 10,817 children are in school, “including 59% in nursery and elementary school”. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees counted on Tuesday a total of more than 4.65 million refugees fleeing Ukraine.
