4 departments on orange rain-flood or flood alert

Météo France has placed Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie on orange rain-flood vigilance this evening and Deux-Sèvres on orange flood vigilance. An alert that also holds for Monday.

Météo France has placed Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie on orange rain-flood vigilance this Sunday, December 10 and Monday, December 11 and Deux-Sèvres on orange flood vigilance due to a “very active rainy episode” . The episode should begin this Sunday evening around 10 p.m. for the departments placed on orange rain-flood vigilance.

In Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère the rains expected during the episode “are close to the usual quantities for a monthly accumulation” and must be accompanied by “a significant melting of part of the snow cover”, according to the Météo France bulletin.

Episode begins Sunday evening

These heavy rains are brought by a disturbance which approached the western side of the country early Sunday morning. “Precipitation will begin in the Alps in the first part of the night from Sunday December 10 to Monday December 11. It will continue throughout the night and during the day on Monday. The rain will ease at the end of the day on Monday December 11,” specifies Météo France.

The Sèvre Niortaise upstream, affected by the orange flood alert, could experience “damaging overflows” from Monday, according to the Vigicrues information site. Also, “significant flooding is possible”, “power cuts may occur”, and “basement areas, particularly underground car parks, can be dangerous”, warns Vigicrues.
