Again no win: Trapp railed against “fucking offside goals”

Eintracht Frankfurt lost their first win of the season late against 1. FC Köln and struggled with a controversial referee decision. Kevin Trapp in particular reacted angrily.

Angry Kevin Trapp was hard to calm down. First, the goalkeeper from Eintracht Frankfurt had intensive discussions with the referees, then he almost talked his head and neck in front of the camera.

“Every weekend we have discussions about these shitty offside goals. I’m sorry for my choice of words, but it’s just crazy!” The national goalkeeper stormed after the 1-1 (0-0) win in the new Bundesliga season Eintracht against 1. FC Cologne.

Cologne gate causes discussions

Reason for Trapp’s anger: Cologne’s late equalizer in front of 50,800 spectators by Jan Thielmann (82nd), which was only recognized by referee Martin Petersen and the video assistants after a minute-long analysis. It was about the tricky question of whether the striker Florian Dietz, who was slightly offside, might have blocked Trapp’s view.

“I’m sorry, but if someone is there, it’s offside. I don’t react at all, I don’t see the ball! I don’t understand why you don’t whistle it off rigorously,” said Trapp on DAZN. Even his coach Oliver Glasner no longer understood the (rules) world: “The striker is in Kevin’s line – then it’s offside.”

Even goalscorer Thielmann answered evasively when asked whether Dietz had been offside and obstructed Trapp’s view: “Of course, as a native of Cologne, I have to say no…”. FC coach Steffen Baumgart also “didn’t want to complain” about the decision. But he also criticized the team of referees: “If four situations are necessary to deny or recognize a goal, then we all find it difficult. I make every referee’s decision in training clearer and clearer.”

Before the controversial equalizer, Daichi Kamada (71st) scored just two minutes after coming on with a free-kick goal worth seeing for the Europa League winners from Frankfurt. The hosts were lucky that Jonas Hector deflected the ball slightly with his head. Nevertheless, Eintracht remains without a win in the eleventh game in a row across the seasons. Nevertheless, Glasner recognized progress: “The performance allows me to look forward very positively.”

Glasner had switched to a four-man defense for the Hessians after his back team had often wobbled. Juventus loanee Luca Pellegrini was allowed to play on the left from the start after Almamy Touré was also absent. Captain Sebastian Rode in his 200th Bundesliga game and Djibril Sow in Frankfurt’s defensive midfield ensured that the guests’ build-up was repeatedly disturbed.

National coach Flick is in the Frankfurt stadium

Before that, before the eyes of national coach Hansi Flick, former world champion Mario Götze, who had only really impressed in the cup win in Magdeburg, and Jesper Lindström tried to find gaps in the opposing defense. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Junior Dina Ebimbe, who was loaned out on Sunday, has not yet been included in the squad.

A low shot by Pellegrini to the right of the goal was pretty much the only notable chance for Frankfurt in the first half. Then Cologne came up more and more: defender Evan Ndicka had his foot on at the last moment when Steffen Tigges shot from a few meters (38th). Shortly thereafter, Hector hit the side netting and Sargis Adamyan tested Trapp.

With three changes in one go – including Dietz, who was in good form recently – Baumgart then strengthened his eleven after about an hour. Eintracht struggled, but Cologne held out with a cool head and duel toughness – until Kamada hit the powerless Swabian from a tight angle. After that it got hectic – especially when Cologne equalized after video evidence.
