The German runner-up Borussia Dortmund has spectacularly missed the temporary jump to the top of the table in the Bundesliga.

The German runner-up Borussia Dortmund has spectacularly missed the temporary jump to the top of the table in the Bundesliga.

Despite a 2-0 lead in the meantime, BVB still lost 2-3 (1-0) against newly promoted Werder Bremen. Julian Brandt (45th minute +2) and Raphael Guerreiro (77th) had given the hosts the lead, the two substitutes Lee Buchanan (89th) and Niklas Schmidt (90th + 3) and Oliver Burke (90th + 5) filmed the crazy encounter. It was the first defeat for Dortmund coached by Edin Terzic on the third day of the game. With a win on Sunday at VfL Bochum, record champions FC Bayern Munich can take the lead alone.

Bayer Leverkusen meanwhile had to accept their third defeat of the season in a 0:3 (0:2) against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and remains bottom of the table. Christoph Baumgartner (9th), Andrej Kramaric (35th) and Georginio Rutter (78th) scored for the Kraichgauer, who managed their second win of the season.

VfL Wolfsburg were held to a goalless draw against newly promoted FC Schalke 04, while FC Augsburg lost 2-1 (1-1) to FSV Mainz 05 with a goal in injury time. SC Freiburg won 1-0 (1-0) at VfB Stuttgart.
