It rolls and rolls through Bochum, almost every day, for 35 years: the “Starlight Express”. For the 35th birthday of the Germans’ favorite musical, the star go in search of clues behind the scenes: How can the fascination be explained?
Farah Liss races down the red carpet in the foyer. The 24-year-old, with blonde hair and a big smile, hasn’t been on skates for long, as everyone here calls roller skates, but you can’t tell by looking at her. She had three months to learn how to move on the rollers as if they were her own feet. She now wears the skates six days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., rushes to the canteen like the other actors, down the hall with a tray and to the toilet. “It’s a bit difficult,” she laughs. “You keep rolling back and forth on the toilet.”
