The 2nd Bundesliga remains the kingdom of striker Simon Terodde. With his opening goal to make it 1-0 over Kaiserslautern, he helped FC Schalke out of a tricky situation.

Simon Terodde remains FC Schalke’s goalkeeper. The 35-year-old veteran was also reliable in the 3-0 (1-0) win over Kaiserslautern, with which the aspirant averted a false start to the new season of the 2nd Bundesliga.

His header to make it 1-0 in the 13th minute paved the way to the difficult victory for the Bundesliga relegated team – and turned the course of the game upside down at that point. “It was a difficult initial phase. You have to concentrate on helping the team,” commented the second division record scorer on Sky on his 174th goal in the football lower house. With a mischievous smile, he added: “It’s a great feeling to take the lead with the first action.”

Terodde thus met in each of his last nine second division games across the season. Only three players have done that before. In addition, the attacker cultivated his reputation as a Lautern fright. In his ninth game against the Palatinate he was successful for the eighth time. “After the 3:5 in Hamburg, that’s good today,” Terodde admitted, referring to the wild game at the start of the league without a happy ending a week earlier at co-favorite HSV.

More goals from Kenan Karaman (70′) and Bryan Lasme (90′ + 2′) consoled the poor performance against the visitors from Kaiserslautern, who were decimated after goalkeeper Andreas Luthe (39′) and defender Boris Tomiak (57′) were sent off . “A lot happened for us today with the dismissals, but there is still a lot to do,” said Terodde.

Coach Thomas Reis saw it the same way: “There was a lot of pressure on the boiler, but we were able to withstand the pressure.” But despite all the relief, the football teacher had identified “a slight blockage” in some professionals. “We learned the hard way last week, and today we were able to defend it to some extent. But we still have some catching up to do,” admitted the Schalke coach.
