St. Pauli and Kiel continue to march towards the Bundesliga. Behind them, Fürth stumbles.

Frontrunner FC St. Pauli didn’t let itself be stopped by the in-form 1. FC Nürnberg and is still on its way towards the Bundesliga. After an overwhelmingly superior performance, coach Fabian Hürzeler’s team won 2-0 (1-0) at the “Club” and ended the Franconian team’s short two-game winning streak. Thanks to their 15th win of the season, Hamburg remain at the top of the 2nd Bundesliga table with a five point lead over pursuers Holstein Kiel.

In front of 41,269 spectators, Johannes Eggestein cracked the dense Nuremberg defense late with a header in the 44th minute. Top scorer Marcel Hartel (62nd) effortlessly converted a cross pass from Eggestein after the break. It was his 14th goal of the season.

Kiel also wins in Elversberg

Kiel underlined its ambitions for the first Bundesliga promotion in the club’s history. The second-place team won 2-0 (1-0) at SV Elversberg and temporarily increased their lead over the relegation place to six points. HSV could at least move up to five points with a win on Sunday. Elversberg remains in the middle of the table with 35 points.

In front of 8,184 spectators in the Kaiserlinde stadium, Shuto Machino (39th) gave the guests the lead. Immediately after the break, Philipp Sander (49th) increased for Kiel, who once again showed their away strength. Marcel Rapp’s team leads the away table in the 2nd league with 27 points.

Fürth’s negative series continues

SpVgg Greuther Fürth suffered their third defeat in a row with a 0:1 (0:1) at relegation candidate Hansa Rostock. Coach Alexander Zorniger’s team is falling further behind in the fight for promotion. Hansa Rostock climbs to 16th place in the table thanks to the victory in front of 24,500 spectators in the Ostseestadion. Rostock’s Nico Neidhart scored the goal of the day in the 40th minute.
