After only ten points from the first ten games, 1. FC Nürnberg is in danger of losing sight of its goal for the season. Coach Markus Weinzierl should now lead the club out of the crisis again.

Nuremberg’s new coach Markus Weinzierl wants to demand “even more discipline and intensity” from the players of the traditional club that has crashed.

“I can also make tough decisions,” said the 47-year-old football teacher when he was introduced: In general, his credo is: “Be tough, but also have a connection to the players.”

The Lower Bavarian takes over 1. FC Nuremberg in a crisis. After a glaring drop in performance, the Franconians are in 14th place in the 2nd Bundesliga after ten match days. Rather, there is currently a threat of going into the 3rd league.

Hecking: “I wish we could score consistently now”

“The goal is to get in line for the time being. We have to accept the situation as it is. I hope that we’ll keep scoring points until the winter break,” said sporting director Dieter Hecking on Tuesday.

Despite the disappointing season so far, Weinzierl knows about the class of his new team. “The club has potential that I want to tease out,” said the Straubinger. “It is important to give the players a simple and good plan that they implement 100 percent.” The aim is to seize the opportunity that such a change of coach brings with it.

On Sunday, the Bundesliga-experienced coach, who was employed by FC Augsburg until the summer, will make his debut on the Franconian touchline. Then Nuremberg welcomes Holstein Kiel. Until then, Weinzierl’s motto is: “Get impressions and draw the right conclusions”.
