In the second division, ten teams are fighting against relegation. Nuremberg and Magdeburg achieve important successes. There are spectacles in Hanover.

Thanks to a spectacular energy performance, SC Paderborn remains in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. In a wild game at Hannover 96, the SCP achieved their third win in a row with 4:3 (2:2).

Coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team turned around an early 0:2. Match winner with two goals was Robert Leipertz (6th and 56th minute). In addition, former 96 pro Florent Muslija scored from the penalty spot (26th) and Sirlord Conteh (71st) for the guests.

Even a lightning start with a brace from Cedric Teuchert (2nd/4th) was not enough for the Lower Saxony team to win for the first time in 2023. Maximilian Beier (83rd) came back too late in the end. As a result, Hanover, bottom of the table with 26 points from 20 games, seems to be no longer able to pursue promotion ambitions. Paderborn, with 35 points, moved up to fourth place for at least one day and put pressure on their direct competitors.

Important victory for FCN

In the exciting relegation race, three days after the lucky round of 16 victory in the DFB Cup against Fortuna Düsseldorf after a penalty shoot-out, 1. FC Nürnberg also achieved an important success in the league. The traditional club triumphed 1-0 (0-0) in the Franconian-Bavarian duel against Jahn Regensburg. Enrico Valentini scored the decisive goal for the otherwise tired Nuremberg team with a brilliant shot (56th). The victory initially gave the club a small lead of three points over the relegation zone and Regensburg, which fell to the bottom of the table with a further 19 points.

Since 1. FC Magdeburg also scored important points in the 3-2 (1-1) win at Holstein Kiel, the promoted team passed Jahn, who was tied on points. Coach Christian Titz’s team showed morale, equalized twice after goals from Patrick Erras (33′) and Fiete Arp (54′) by Daniel Elfadli (45′) and Herbert Bockhorn (70′) and scored shortly before the end again to. Moritz Kwarteng (86th) scored the important winning goal and Magdeburg with 21 points on a non-relegation zone.
