HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes provides a scene for the year in review with an own goal in the Hamburg city derby at FC St. Pauli.

Despite probably the strangest thing own goal in the history of the Hamburg city derby by goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, HSV prevented a defeat in the explosive game at FC St. Pauli.

With the 2:2 (0:2) in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga, coach Tim Walter’s team at least saved a point from the league leaders from the neighborhood in the 110th edition of the city championship and avoided a setback in the promotion battle. Nevertheless, HSV has to fear for its second place after the 15th matchday. The undefeated neighborhood club (31 points) is still three points ahead of its rivals.

Curious HSV own goal

HSV keeper Heuer Fernandes provided the scene for the game in front of 29,153 spectators in the sold-out Millerntor Stadium. The guests took a short goal kick in the 27th minute via Stephan Ambrosius and Guilherme Ramos. After Ramos passed the ball to Heuer Fernandes, the ball bounced just in front of the goal.

The goalkeeper wanted to shoot the ball from the penalty area, but instead he hit the ball into his own goal to make it 0-2. For the 31-year-old it was the first own goal in his 180th second division game. St. Pauli captain Jackson Irvine (15th) shot his team into the lead after a corner. Goal scorer Robert Glatzel (58th) and Immanuel Pherai (60th) made up for their goalkeeper’s mishap within two minutes and saved another point.

Coach Fabian Hürzeler’s players dominated the game from the start, appeared more mature and had better play. Clear offensive actions alone were rare. However, HSV was initially disappointing and seemed to be continuing its disappointing away performances this season at the Millerntor Stadium, just seven kilometers from Volkspark.

After the break the conditions became more difficult due to snowfall. The guests coped better with the slippery surface and equalized with a double strike from Glatzel and Pherai. The game became more open. In the end the draw was fair.
