In the Palatinate, dreams of promotion are ripening: Kaiserslautern is keeping up with the top trio in the 2nd division. Klose double pack redeemed Bielefeld.

1. FC Kaiserslautern is doing well in the 2nd Bundesliga in the promotion race.

The promoted team from the Palatinate celebrated their fifth win in a row and their 100th home win in the second division in a hard-fought 2-1 win against Holstein Kiel. Goalscorer Terence Boyd saved the success on the Betzenberg with the winning goal (71st). Daniel Hanslik had given coach Dirk Schuster’s team a 1-0 lead (6th), Kiel’s Finn Porath managed to equalize in the meantime (30th).

“We actually came out well after half-time, but then they forced their football on us, the crowd went along with it and then they got the lucky punch with the goal,” said Kiel’s offensive player Fabian Reese.

Heidenheim is defeated by Braunschweig

The Palatinate also benefited from the surprising Heidenheimer 0: 2 at the relegation candidate Eintracht Braunschweig. Lower Saxony celebrated their first win after six games without a win thanks to goals from Manuel Wintzheimer (72′) and Lion Lauterbach (90′). Heidenheim missed the jump to second place with the first defeat after six unbeaten games in a row. Braunschweig improved from 16th place to 9th place.

With his first two goals of the season, Fabian Klos helped Arminia Bielefeld to an important victory in the relegation battle. The center forward scored twice in the closing stages at Jahn Regensburg and led his team to 3:1. This means that Bielefeld is on a saving place for the first time in almost five months, Regensburg remained without a win in the sixth game in a row.

In the chasing duel on Friday evening at SC Paderborn, Fortuna Düsseldorf initially missed the connection to the promotion places. The Paderborn came with a lot of offensive power to a clear 4:1.

“The 2-1 gave Paderborn the upper hand. Everything that happened after that – I don’t actually know us like that. I can’t remember a game in which we lose our heads like that and concede the third and fourth goals,” said Fortuna’s captain André Hoffmann. SV Darmstadt 98 also secured their place at the top of the table on Friday with a commanding 4-0 win at SV Sandhausen.
