The new HSV coach supports the DFL decision. The 52-year-old believes another issue is more important than large financial injections.

HSV coach Steffen Baumgart welcomes the stop to investors’ entry into German football. “I think the decision as it was made is good,” said the 52-year-old. He added: “That doesn’t mean that we can do without money. We should also be aware of that.” The new coach of the second division team is about to make his debut with the Hanseatic League on Sunday against SV Elversberg (1.30 p.m./Sky).

After weeks of fan protests in German stadiums, the German Football League (DFL) announced on Wednesday that it was not continuing negotiations to conclude the planned billion-dollar deal with a strategic partner. Baumgart emphasized that it is important to listen to the fans. “Because that’s what defines German football: we have a fan culture that doesn’t exist in any other country.”

Baumgart considers the training of talent to be more important than billions of dollars of money. “I believe that if you want to move German football forward, it’s about training. It’s about using your own resources.”
