2nd League: Hertha BSC and 1. FC Nürnberg deliver a spectacle without a winner

As of: March 30, 2024 11:17 p.m

Hertha BSC and 1. FC Nürnberg ensured a high-scoring evening game in the 2nd league on Saturday (March 30, 2024). Both teams are still stuck in midfield after the 3:3 (1:2).

At first it looked as if Can Uzun would guarantee Nuremberg’s third success in the last four games, with a 3-1 lead. The 18-year-old youngster, who is set to move to Eintracht Frankfurt after the season, scored his 14th goal of the season in the 14th minute and was never stopped by the Berlin defense. Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck used a strong reflex to prevent Uzun from celebrating a second time in the first half (26th).

He himself didn’t make it 2-0 before the break, but one of his colleagues did – with the diligent help of the Berliners. After an unsuccessful rescue operation by Marton Dardai, Lukas Kehler appeared completely free in front of Gersbeck and kept his nerve (33′). Only then did the Berliners wake up, with Marten Winkler heading home the goal shortly before half-time (45′).

The Uzun factor in Nuremberg

At this point, the Berliners only had hope for a turnaround for a short time. After less than a minute, Uzun dribbled his way through the entire Hertha defense and scored his fourth brace of the season (46th). A little later, Gersbeck, who saved his overwhelmed front men, prevented him from scoring his first hat trick in the 2nd league (51st).

When Uzun scores, the “club” is almost always successful. Only at Karlsruher SC (1:4) were there no points despite a goal from the top talent, otherwise Nuremberg won five games with Uzun goals and drew four times. Now the sixth victory was on the way, in which Uzun contributed at least one goal.

Tabakovic becomes the second double packer of the day

But then he quickly found himself in danger again. In the 54th minute, Haris Tabakovic’s header put the Berliners back in touch. And that’s not all: just a minute later, after a foul by Nathaniel Brown on Jonjoe Kenny, the hosts received a penalty – and Tabakovic also converted it to equalize for Berlin (56th).

Only then did the two defensive lines catch themselves and not much happened in front of the two goals. Gersbeck only had to save again against Joseph Hungbo in the fourth minute of injury time. So it remained a spectacular 3:3 with a less exciting last half hour – which neither team got any further. Hertha, in eighth place, is already eight points behind third place, while Nuremberg is ninth in tenth place.
