The negotiations dragged on for months and were already in danger of failing. But now it is clear: successful coach Hürzeler is staying at FC St. Pauli, at least for the time being.

Promotion candidate FC St. Pauli and coach After months of negotiations, Fabian Hürzeler finally agreed on a contract extension. This was announced by the leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga.

Both sides agreed to keep the details confidential. The Hamburg team did not comment on whether this included an exit clause for a move to another club.

“I think the conversations were always very trusting,” said the coach before Sunday’s game against Hertha BSC (1:30 p.m./Sky). “I am very happy that I have extended my contract here and am extremely looking forward to continuing to work together,” added the 31-year-old.

Hürzeler was promoted from co-coach to head coach of the neighborhood club in December 2022. At that time the team was in 15th place in the table. St. Pauli is now the frontrunner, promotion favorite and Hürzeler is a sought-after coach who has also been linked to VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg in recent weeks. Negotiations regarding a contract extension began last September. According to media reports, Hürzeler and his consulting agency insisted on an exit clause for a long time.
